dilemma

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Here is my dilemma.

Brenna has wide feet. (I guess this dashes her hopes of becoming a ballerina. She actually comes from a long line of wide feet on the Wagster side so maybe the pride she can take in her heritage will ease the disappointment.)

Her regular width shoes are tearing up her feet, and it is rapidly becoming to cool to wear the one pair of sandals that fit her.

I am unwilling to pay $40 at Stride Rite (they consistently have wide widths) for shoes that she MIGHT be able to wear for 24 hours before she outgrows them.

I don’t have the time or inclination to run all over town dragging my children with me in search of wide width shoes that I may or may not find. (Evidently, no other children at this point in history have wide feet because finding shoes that fit her is like trying to find good mexican food on the east coast.)

I can hear you thinking right now……just buy some on line. Right. I’m trying. The options are endless it seems, terribly overwhelming. There are only 18 million pairs of kids shoes listed on ebay.

So, any help out there? Some great website with good prices, shoes that aren’t ugly, and wide widths?

Boredom, our stroller, and a blog

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

It was one of those days. I felt completely inept all day. Irritated with my kids, didn’t get a bit of work done around the house….what in the world did I do today, anyway? I think that the issue was one of boredom. I felt bored and entered with self defeating cycle of not doing anything productive because I felt all bored and cranky, and thereby feeling more bored and more cranky because I wasn’t doing anything productive. Does that make sense? While sharing this with C.W. at dinner I was serving him a helping of broccoli, cheese, noodle sidedish, and as the serving spoon was on it’s way to the plate I dropped a nice big glop in his TEA GLASS. This is the kind of day that I have had.

I met a record 6 comments in one outing about our stroller today while I was out with kids. No lie, we were out for about a hour and a half and 6 different people were moved so by our stroller that they stopped me to comment and ask questions. (Erica, did you encounter this phenomenon?) I have got to find a way to work in talking about Jesus to the rundown that I always give people.

I have been reading an interesting blog this week. The name is Owlhaven, and she has been doing this thing called 30 days of nothing for the month of September. Where they are trying to buy only the most essential things for the whole month. The idea is to understand better and teach her kids about so many people in the world who can’t just run to the store when run out of something. They are doing other stuff too; you should go read. She has a great blog. I should probably comment and stop lurking. Anyway, her 30 days of nothing has got me thinking…..

May I just say, in closing this post, how excited I am about all the fun company that we are having in the next couple of months. A number of you reading this will soon be in my home! Hooray!

big girl bed

Saturday, September 16th, 2006

Brenna is, as I write, sleeping is her new big girl bed. This is her second night, and the transition has gone pretty smooth. She hasn’t really missed a beat…..you would think that she had been sleeping there her whole life!

I was talking to a guy on the plane from Dallas to College Station…..

Friday, September 8th, 2006

who (in description of our travel destination) said “it’s not exactly scenic, but the people are great”. I have to whole heartedly agree! We got to see quite an impressive number of those great people people in our short visit. I am amazed at the list…

All the Faulkners. G-daddy and Nana, Aunt pam, Uncle Warren, Chelsea Larry and Hope, Brock and Brittney, and Mimi Martha
Most of the MCM people, The Prestons, The Bloms, Jim (sadly, no Ruthie), Shawn (sadly, no Rachel)

Mom and Tom (all the way from Arlington)

Emily Roden (all the way from Denton) and Charla Dixon

Sadly, (again) Preston and Erica and their boys had to cancel on our plans because of a sleepless night. Although C.W. and Preston got to hang out. (Ask either of them about Boston’s, the great new restaurant in College Station.)
So fun. This is the way to travel with kids. Stay in one place and let everyone come to you!
